*August 23 Event, Skeet Gifford, Chair*Leadville/Combo Drive and Sleep Over, Aug. 23 & 24, Skeet Gifford, Chair

Assuming that the EPA has been able to eliminate the danger of a billion gallons (that's 3,070 acre-feet--if treated, enough to supply 9,000 families for a year), you will drive to Leadville via Kenosha  Pass on August 23 where we will stay at the historic (some say,

haunted) Delaware Hotel. After we check in, we'll visit the nearby National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum. Sunday, we will return by way  of Vail with a stop at the site of Camp Hale where the 10th Mountain  Division trained during WW II. Lunch Sunday will be at the Dillon Reservoir Recreation Center.

OVERNIGHT CRUISE TO

LEADVILLE

EVENT OVERVIEW

Join the Rocky Mountain 356 Porsche Club on an overnight trip to Leadville Colorado
August 23-24, 2008. We will depart Morrison and US 285 at 09:00 am Saturday morning and drive US 285 and US 24 to Leadville, arriving about 2:00 pm. There will be a planned fuel/potty stop in Bailey, and a lunch stop at Johnson Village (where US 285 joins US 24). Those of you from the Springs or the Western Slope can meet us at the hotel.

After checking into the historic Delaware Hotel (which some say is haunted) and freshening up, we will walk or drive the two blocks to the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum. Caution: Leadville is 10,000 feet elevation and it is uphill from the hotel to the museum. It may be prudent to let your 356 do the work.

We have a group rate at the museum, so your entry is already paid. The museum normally closes at 5:00 pm, but we have made special arrangements to be there until 6:00 pm. That should give you plenty of time to examine the many exhibits in detail. The museum has a small gift shop where you can buy souvenirs or trinkets for the grandkids. There will also be a hospitality table set up for us with wine, cheese, veggies and dip.

After touring the museum, we will return to the hotel for dinner--separate checks.

Breakfast Sunday morning is on your own. We'll leave the hotel in time to get the first tour of the Matchless Mine at 9:00 am. The mine is located just a couple of blocks west of the hotel on 7th Street, and the price of the tour is included. After the tour, you can take some time to pan for gold. The drive home is at your discretion.

 COST OF THE EVENT

Delaware Hotel single or double room:. $125

Entrance fees for both the museum and for the mine ($3 each, group rate):.......... $6 per person

Extended museum time and hospitality set-up:.. $15 per person

Total per couple $167

Total for one person........... $146

The Delaware Hotel does not accept pets, however the Timberline Motel on Harrison Ave. (main street) allows pets for $7/pet/night plus tax. Rooms there are $75 per night plus tax. 719-486-9462. Price for the museum and mine activities is $21 for one person and $42 for two.
